The Beauty of a Blood Orange

Jan 18, 2013 · by Valentina · 3 Comments

There's no end to the beauty of a blood orange. They're gorgeous to look at, and delicious to eat. I think we should celebrate it! One blood orange partially peeled

The Beauty of a Blood Orange . . .

The skin of a blood orange can be bright orange, red, or orange streaked with soft blush tones.

Any of these variations are stunning on this fruit.

It's somewhat dramatic when the skin is gently peeled away, revealing the deep, dark flesh.one peeled blood orange with skin pieces around it on black backgroundI thought about creating a number of new recipes with the big, beautiful bag of blood oranges sitting on my counter.

Though, what I really wanted was to celebrate just how exquisite this citrus is.

I didn't want any other ingredients mixed with them, next to them, or beneath them.

What do blood oranges taste like?

Blood oranges have a berry-like, sweet, subtly tangy taste. The wonderful flavor  matches their visual beauty, for sure.

three blood orange segments Thank you Melissa's Produce for the gorgeous, perfect, delicious blood oranges.

Blood oranges are available in abundance December through March. Don't miss out on them!

Are you with me on the beauty of a blood orange? I hope so. 🙂

While I do find them almost irresistible on their own, they are of course a delightful ingredient to add to all sorts of recipes.

Recipes using blood oranges:

  • Champagne Blood Orange Crème Brûlée
  • Turmeric Blood Orange Upside Down Cake
  • Halibut Blood Orange Ceviche Tacos
  • Citrus Carpaccio with Yuzu Dressing
  • Pickled Ginger Citrus Salad with Wasabi Dressing

This is not a sponsored post. Melissa's Produce sent me blood oranges for sampling and recipe testing. As always, all opinions are my own.

Thanks for letting their beauty speak for itself. The colors are intense but the flavors are equally vibrant. I know you have some fantastic recipes up your sleeve for the rest of the bag. Share please!

What a great idea for a post. They are soooo good by themselves, especially when juiced. And as always, your pictures are absolutely beautiful.
